Jeanne Fiery

July 15, 1935 — February 16, 2019

Jeanne Fiery, age 83, died peacefully in the presence of her three daughters on February 16th at Wesley Willows in Rockford, IL. Born on July 15, 1935 to Robert Fiery and Elinor Bowker Fiery (Keady) in Washington D.C.
Jeanne was a pioneering nurse practitioner, enjoying a long career with the University of Massachusetts, Arizona State University, International School of Business Management, Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital, and Banner Health System. Jeanne was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jeanne had an adventurous spirit. She traveled to multiple countries to serve others as a nurse and a servant. She was also an experienced pilot and member of the International Organization of Women Pilots, also known as the Ninety Nines. Jeanne had unwavering faith in Christ our Savior and shared that faith with others as a member and teacher at Grace Community Church in Tempe, AZ and New Life Community Church in Peoria, AZ. She was a board member, nurse (Firebird) and loving presence for 20 plus years at the Pioneer Girls Camp Saguaro Camp Cherith. Jeanne supported World Gospel Outreach in Honduras and the Shalom Child Development Center in India for many years, providing nursing support and visiting her special friend, Prashad, in India.
Jeanne’s legacy includes her love for the Lord, attentiveness to her children, grandchildren, siblings and their families; handling life’s trials with grace and positivity and special devotion to special friends, both young and old. Her creative sewing and many handmade treasures leave us with many gifts. Jeanne’s love for music served her and others for many years as she poured out her sweet spirit through song in churches, outreaches and at the Wesley Willows Campus as she lived with Alzheimer’s disease.
A special thank you to all who loved, honored and cared for Jeanne throughout her life, including the staff and volunteers of Wesley Willows and Northern Illinois Hospice. Jeanne touched everyone she met and was a friend to all. The milkshakes and ice cream brought her joy and that beautiful smile. You are all precious to us. Special mention to Sheryl Kelly, one of mom’s many dear sisters in Christ.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Skip) Huntress, Terri (Dave) Hileman, and Karen Diaz Fiery; their father Charles Smith (Bobbi); grandchildren, Jessica (Brett), Sam (Emily), Jocelyn, Andy (Michelle), Krissy (Steve), Katie (Dustin), Tim, JD (Deidre), Tara and Michael; great-grandchildren, Simon, Ethan, Mason, Eli, Benjamin, Ruby, Lola, Warner and Evie; brothers, Ken (Rosemary) and Wayne (Cel); sister-in-law, Tess; nieces and nephews, Denise, Dana, Dawn, Bobbi, Roxanna, John, Bill, Michael and Jacqui; special mentions, Doug Dailing, Edgar Diaz, Ashlynn and Leah.
Jeanne is joining her parents, brother, Earl Fiery; grandchildren, Gabi, and Dani Diaz and numerous friends and loved ones.
