Joan C. Mcsweeney

Joan C. McSweeney, 87, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016. Born in Rockford, January 5, 1929 to Ambrose and Mary (Marelli) Cherichetti. Graduated from Muldoon High School, class of 1946. Joan married Thomas McSweeney on June 28, 1952, in Rockford. She worked at Amerock before becoming a secretary at the Cathedral of St. Peters for ten years. Later in her career she was the secretary to the Principal at Boylan High School. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and Verdi club of Rockford.

Joan was a loving and devoted mother to her four sons and will be dearly missed. She especially enjoyed the regularly scheduled luncheons she shared with her close friends of many years. She was a kind soul inspired by her Catholic faith.

Survivors included, sons; Michael, Patrick (Gail), and Steven McSweeney. Grandson; Kevin McSweeney. Predeceased by husband, parents, son; Timothy, and sisters; Lucille Olivieri, Helen Fialkowski and Rosemary Bertolasi.

Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Peters. Visitation from 9:30 until time of mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Poor Clares of Rockford.
