Joan "Jo" Marie Norton

Joan “Jo” Marie Norton, 82, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. She was the daughter of William and Hazelle (Grant) Johnson. Joan married Donald S. Norton on November 14, 1954. He passed away on December 10, 2008, in Rockford. Joan worked in the cafeterias of Bloom and Summerdale Schools. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Joan was a talented artist and was a former member of the Studio Artists in Rockford. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be dearly missed.
Survived by her children, Diane (Dave) Gregory , David (Cyndie) Norton and Mary (Ernie) Pohl, all of Rockford, and Paul Norton and his former wife Kelly Boshoven of Michigan; her grandchildren, Gina (Chuck) Beaver, Brandon (Aleesha) Pohl, Kallie Norton, Whitney (Cornell) Blakely, Lisa Gregory, Brady Norton, Lindsey (Anthony) Pro, Colin Norton, Delaney Norton, and Kieffer Norton; her great-grandchildren, Aubree Pohl, Addison Gregory, Chloe Beaver, Brynlee Pohl, Avery Beaver, and twins, Audrina and Tyler Pro; her sister, Barb Engstrom of Michigan; many nieces and nephews including her special niece, Linda Pike. Predeceased by her husband, Don; her infant grandson, Doug Gregory; her brothers and their wives, William, James and Grant Johnson; her brother-in-law, Donald “Swede” Engstrom. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Jay Quinn officiating. Burial in Arlington Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 3, 2016, and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Wednesday.
