John Gugi Guglielmi

John ""Gugi"" Guglielmi, 91, of Rockford, went to be with his wife on December 29, 2007 surrounded by his family. John was born September 7, 1916 in Chicago the son of Burtolo and Mary (Panozzo) Guglielmi. John married Angelica Vitale in Rockford on August 12, 1944 and was a devoted husband for 55 years. John was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He worked for Twin Disc for 34 years as a production control supervisor until retiring in 1979. John was an avid golfer and former member of the Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Mens Golf club and St. Ambrosia. He and Angelica shared not only their love of family, but also their love of golf. As a team they won the Rockford Park District Doubles Golf Tournament for three consecutive years. As a young man he learned the game of golf by caddying for the great Gene Sarazin and Jimmy Demerit. He taught the game of golf to his daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John was a member of St. Anthony of Padua, the St. Anthony Holy Name Society and the Venetian Club. John is survived by his three daughters, Janice (Angelo) Fiorello, Mary Jo (Peter) Guglielmi-Salm and Joanne Beyer; his five grandchildren, Michelle and John Fiorello, Rick and Andrew Beyer and Vito Salm; his sister, Mit Rebrovich; his sister-in-law, Angelina Vitale; his brother-in-law, Angelo (Edythe) Vitale and many nieces, nephews and golfing buddies. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Angelica who died Oct. 24, 1999; and his brothers Joseph and Willie. Johns family would like to extend a special thank you to Judy for her compassionate care given to their father. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2007 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua, 1010 Ferguson St. with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday at the church from 9 am until time of mass. Interment will be in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
