John Owens

John Francis Owens, 86, passed away on August 4, 2021 at Amberwood Care Centre in Rockford. He was born on May 14, 1935, the son of Maurice and Fern (Francis) Owens.
John married the love of his life, Anna Giovingo Zupancic on September 8, 1984 at St. Patrick Church in Rockford, IL. He attended St. Patrick Catholic School and graduated from St. Thomas Catholic High School and Marquette University. John retired from the State of Illinois working as a supervisor in the Division of Operations, Special Audit Section and the Department of Police.
John served in the United States Army. He was a member of Cathedral of St. Peter Church, American Legion, St. Ambrogio Club, Venetian Club and Lombardi Club. John enjoyed playing golf, fishing and hunting.
John will be dearly missed by his wife, Anna, children; Richard (Lisa) Zupancic of Rockton, IL, Leonard Zupancic of Rockford, IL, Anna Oldfield of Howell, MI; grandchildren, Nicholas Zupancic and Caleb Oldfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents, In-Laws, Tony and Katie Giovingo, Brother-In-Law, Anthony (Gerri) Giovingo, and step-mother, Emily Lamps.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Cathedral of St. Peter from 9:00 A.M. until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. A private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
