John R. Espy

John R. Espy, 63, of Rockford, died unexpectedly on November 19, 2009 at Nelson Debes Rehabilitation facility. Born August 12, 1946 in Rockford, son of Delmar and Ione (McDanel) Espy. United States Veteran, Purple Heart recipient, serving in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war and also received additional numerous medals and awards for his dedicated service to his country.  Married to his loving wife Donna Sweet. John was a great lover of animals, he enjoyed working in the yard and he was an artist in his own rite. Survivors include his wife Donna of Rockford; daughter, Cherish Espy and step daughter, Amber Gonzalez both of Rockford; grandchildren, Kayla and Drake; 5 brothers and their spouses; Mother-in-law, Lois Sweet of Rockford and his good friends, Gerry and Jeff. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Annie Johnson. Memorial service Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd.. Visitation to be held from 10 until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
