John Sommers

John Jack William Sommers, 84, of Belividere, IL. passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012nbsp; at home in Belvidere surrounded by his family. He was born May 31, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Edith Sommers. He enlisted into The Marines in April of 1946 serving in China and Korea.nbsp; He married his wife, Irene Jaczkowski, April 30, 1955 in Oakwood Village, Ohio. Jack worked at Ford Motorsnbsp; then went to Freeway Corporation in Cleveland,Ohio. He then opened Freeway Rockford in 1968. He retired as Vice President of Freeway Rockford in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, Illinois.

Jack always enjoyed wood working, marquetry, stained glass, working in his yard, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Irene; children, Patrick (Margie) Hinchliffe, Carol (Paul) Brown, and Scott (Patricia) Sommers,nbsp; son inlaw Normand Massoth,nbsp; eight grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, John and Edith; daughter, Betty Massoth; brother, Ronald Sommers and sisters, Laverne Sawa and Dolores Dean.

Funeral Mass at 10am Wednesday June13, 2012 at St James Catholic Church, Belvidere, with Father Brian Geary Officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
