John William Martin

John William ""Jack"" Martin, 89, of Rockford, passed away at2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Alpine Fireside. Born October 7, 1917 in Omaha, NE; the son of John Allen and Elsie (Jourdan) Martin. He married Anna M. Gall on December 21, 1942, she preceded him in death on January 25, 1978. Jack served four years in the US Army during WWII. He moved from Omaha to Peoria in 1938 and he lived in Peoria until moving to Rockford in 2004. Jack worked at the Peoria Journal Star as the Web Pressman, retiring in 1988 with 50 years of service. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Powell of Moline; son, John Robert (Nancy) Martin of Rockford; grandchildren, Nancy (Tony) Ledbetter, Brent (Gwen) Powell, Daniel (Kristin) Martin, Rebecca Martin, Kathryn (fianca©, Jim Hagerty) Martin; great-grandchildren, Shawn Ledbetter, Ana and Trace Powell, Ty, Luke and Rhet Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, brother, Robert Martin; sister, Jean Stewartson and infant daughter, Kathryn Martin. Funeral services will be held at noon on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108 with Pastor Carol Harrington of Fairview Residence officiating. Burial at a later date in Springdale Cemetery, Peoria, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Sunday. To
