Joseph B. "Joe" Snoy, 90, Rockford, passed away Monday, October 22, 2012, at Bickford House surrounded by his loving family. He was born at home on October 25, 1921, in Bridgeport, Ohio to Joseph and Ursula (Strauss) Snoy. He graduated with honors from Bridgeport High School in 1939, where he was a member of the allOhio high school band. He graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering) with an engineering degree in 1944. Joe married Betty Carr on February 10, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was employed by Allison, Westinghouse, Rockford Clutch, and Twin Disc, designing transmissions for heavyduty off road machinery. Joe was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers since 1952 and he had 23 design patents in his name. He did consulting work for several companies after his retirement. Travel, dancing, and keeping physically active were important to his and Bettys life. They spent their 50 th wedding anniversary crosscountry skiing and biked down a mountain in Hawaii in their seventies.Joe is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Vickie Snoy and her husband, Niko Popovic of Keyport, New Jersey, Sara Snoy and her husband, Donald Scare of Laguna Niguel, California, and Becky Snoy Laible of Machesney Park; granddaughters, Leslie Laible of Chicago and Julia Snoy of Poolesville, Maryland; daughterinlaw, Francie Dougherty of Poolesville, Maryland; brother, Phil Snoy of Ogden, Utah. Predeceased by his son, Dr. Philip J. Snoy; brother, Frederick Snoy; sisters, Margaret Maurer and Freda Snoy.Celebration of life service will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Pamela Hillenbrand officiating. Visitation from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday at the funeral home. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
