Judith Marilynn Janik

August 24, 1926 — April 23, 2015

Judith Marilynn Janik (nee Anderson) passed away in her sleep on April 23, 2015 in Rockford. She was born on a farm near Belgrade, Minnesota, on August 24, 1926, the older of two girls. She loved the farm and living so close to her cousins. The family moved to Illinois in 1940. Judith met her husband Matthew “John” Janik at a roller rink and the two married on May 3, 1946. A daughter and son soon followed. Judith loved to travel, sew, and visit her family, particularly her many cousins. She collected dolls from around the world that she displayed around her house, and baked batch after batch of cookies and bars for any and every occasion. No matter how many cookies you ate, it was never enough in her eyes. After the death of her husband in 1980, Judith started taking dance lessons, first square dancing, then clogging, and finally line dancing. She was out dancing many nights a week, and always performed at family reunions. Few people could keep up with her. She also started painting, mostly landscapes and farms, and was active in her church. Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anne; her sister, Donna; and her son, Bill. Judith is survived by her daughter, Janet Marsh; her daughter-in-law, Karin Janik; and her grandchildren, Erika Janik, Michael Marsh, and Jack Marsh. Judith will be buried beside her husband at Oakland Memory Lane in Dolton. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Express online condolences at: www.fitzgeraldfh.com
