Judy A. Hawley

JUDY A. (HEINDSELMAN) HAWLEY, 60 SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. - Judy A. (Heindselman) Hawley, 60, survived breast cancer for 16 years before passing away on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in her home in Surfside Beach, with her loving husband by her side. Born April 24, 1948, in Olney, Ill., the daughter of Paul and Mary Heindselman. Judy attended Northern Illinois University and graduated from Saint Anthony School of Nursing. She married Nick T. Hawley on Nov. 11, 1993, in Georgetown. She was a member of Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club and enjoyed traveling with her husband, crafts, embroidering and spending time with her grandchildren. Judy is survived by her husband, Nick; sister, Rita Batek of Glen Ellyn; brother-in-law, Mike MacGilvray of Atlanta, Ga.; nephews, Jeff MacGilvray, Chris MacGilvray and Kent Rayhill; aunt, Mabel Ridgely; stepchildren, Christine Hawley (Steven Sproul), Timothy (Kim) Hawley, Sharon (Michael) Roth and Nick J. (Barb) Hawley; and grandchildren, Guy Sproul, Tim, Tom, Loretta and Tad Hawley, Nick W., Abby and Madeline Hawley, Nikki (Andy) Stine, Rosemary (Eric) Langusch and Robert Farnham. Judy also had three very special friends, Carol Kass of Charleston and Mary Moe and Jan Jones of Rockford, Ill. Predeceased by parents; and sister, Kay MacGilvray. Judy faced her illness with optimism like no other. She only wanted to know what the doctors were going to do to make her feel better, never how long they expected her to live. She defied the odds by surviving as long as she did. She loved her husband and family dearly, and was completely devoted to the children in her life. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in St. James Catholic Church, Rockford. Interment in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, and from 9:30 a.m. to time of Mass Thursday in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Winyan Hospice, 5182 Horry Drive, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
