Kathryn Ann Norman

July 25, 1964 — December 31, 2008

Kathryn Ann Norman, 44, of Rockford died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, December 31, 2008 due to complications of ALS/Lou Gehrigs disease.  Born July 25, 1964, the daughter of Webbs and Nancy Norman, she earned her bachelors degree in Political Science from Loyola University Chicago, Masters degree in Leisure Studies from the University of Illinois, and completed doctoral work in Social and Educational Policy.  Most recently she served as Assistant Dean of Student and Alumni Affairs at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.  Kathys professional life was devoted to helping individuals thrive in educational institutions, supporting students to realize their potential and overcome constraints and disadvantages.  In her work life she was a strong, inspiring leader and powerful student advocate.  Kathy brought great joy, love and laughter to the lives of many.  She was a passionate supporter of human equality and dignity and shared her talents with all.  Kathy had a special gift for photography, loved to sing along to music, walk her dogs, appreciate art, get lost in a good book, watch a good drama series, and share her playful, generous and happy spirit with her family and friends.  The family wishes to acknowledge the many friends, students, and colleagues who supported Kathy and her family during the past several months.  Survivors include father, Webbs and his wife, Mary of Rockford; brothers, Charlie of Bloomington and Dan and Maureen of Rockford; sister, Pat of San Antonio, Texas; stepbrother Aaron and Jill Dinges; two magnificent nieces, Kate and Ellie who will miss Kat-Kat a lot; and dear friend Cheryl Baldwin.  Predeceased by mother, Nancy.             Memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
