Kazimierz Zabinski

Kazimierz “Casey” Zabinski, 94, passed away surrounded by his family on February 9, 2022. Born in Warszawa, Poland on August 23, 1927 son to Jozef and Stefania (Morawska) Zabinski. After finishing high school, Casey joined the Polish Home Army (Polish Underground Resistance Movement during World War II). During the Warsaw Uprising 1944, he was captured and was prisoner of war until the end of WWII. He later finished his technical education in mechanical engineering. In 1951 he emigrated to the United States and immediately joined the U.S. Army until 1954. After receiving a purple heart and being honorably discharged, he started his family life. He married Janina Lewandowski and had two children, Gerard and Ilona. After almost 20 years of marriage Casey and Janina parted ways. He retired from being in the engineering industry and decided to start work with the United States Postal Service. During that time he wed Virginia Swieszek and they moved to Florida. She passed away in 2007 after 23 years of marriage. He spent the remainder of his life with his family in Davis Junction, Illinois.

He will be missed by those who loved him most, his children Gerard (Sylvia) Zabinski and Ilona (Michael) Jacobs; his grandchildren Charlie and Sadie Zabinski, as well as Cole (Nina) and Kevin Jacobs. He is predeceased by his parents, and numerous family members overseas.

Cremation Rites have been accorded with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Funeral services will be held private to the family. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to OSF Hospice and their wonderful staff for the care and compassion they showed to Casey.
