Kenneth D. Palmer

Kenneth D. Palmer, 79, passed away at OSF on March 27, 2013 surrounded by family, after a battle with cancer. Born August 26, 1933 to Harvey L. and Blanche (Hill) Palmer in Paris, Illinois. He grew up in Princeton, graduating from Princeton High School in 1951. He started his education at the University of Michigan, transferring to the University of Illinois where he earned his J.D., was editor of The Law Forum and graduated Order of the Coif. Prior to coming to Rockford in 1960, Ken practiced with LeForge Samuels in Decatur, IL followed by the law office of Max Swiren in Chicago where he practiced appellate law. Ken was a jazz aficionado all his life and shared his passion for music with many. He was a close friend of Bill W where he made an impact for over 36 years. On July 2, 1960, Ken married the love of his life, Emily Harper Adams. They found each other “the second time around” and enjoyed 52+ years of adoration and mutual respect. Ken was a man of great integrity, character and honesty. Ken left this world as he lived, by giving. He donated his body for scientific research. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, William E. Palmer, and step-sons, Michael A. Adams and Mark K. Adams. Survivors include his beloved wife, Emily; children, Sally Palmer, of Murrell’s Inlet, SC, Robert (Kim) Palmer, of Raleigh, NC, Elisabeth Palmer, of Rockford, and Amy Flowers, of Powell, OH; grandchildren, Brooke, Justin, Logan, Taylor and Rory. Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, Illinois.
