Leland A. Hinkel

June 28, 1930 — March 20, 2013

Leland A. Hinkel, 82 of Beloit and formerly of Rockford died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Beloit Rehabilitation Center. Born June 28, 1930 in Richland Center, WI the son of Arthur and Ruth Hinkel. Graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1948 and was the last class to graduate from there. Worked several years as a machinist and retired as a machine builder representative. He and his wife Mary were committed leaders and members of Beth Eden United Methodist Church for many years including teaching Jr. High Sunday School and was a fisherman in the Beth Eden's annual Bethlehem market place. He was also active in Boy Scouts of America Troop 2 at church. After Mary passed away, Leland moved to Wisconsin to be near his sister, Dorothy and her caregiver, Kay Kirby. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Beloit Rehabilitation Center, Sun Valley West and to Dr. Kenneth Gold, Sue and Jamie at Beloit Clinic. Survivors include his children, Lee Ann (John) Patterson of Florida Philip (Catherine) Hinkel of Roscoe, Arthur (Helene) Hinkel of Machesney Park, and Lynn Hinkel; grandchildren, Dana Woddhall, Barrett Woodhall, Tom Leu and Lorianne Robertson; sister, Dorothy Lietz of Beloit, WI; nephews, Steve (Judy) Leitz of Janesville and Doug (Jan) Leitz of Durand and the Severings family, Richard, Kenneth, Gerald, Steve, Susan, Sali, David and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his son, Lori and his second wife, Mary Severing-Hinkel.
Funeral service Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home , Riverside Chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave with a visitation from 1:30 p.m. until time of service. A private burial will be held on Monday, March 25 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to Beth Eden United Methodist Church, 3201 Huffman Blvd, Rockford, IL 61103 and Boy Scouts of America Troop 2 at Beth Eden.
