Leland E. Hatfield

August 16, 1922 — September 2, 2010

Leland (Lee) E. Hatfield passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at his sons home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 16, 1922 in Kirksville, MO to Neal and Dulcie Golston Hatfield. He has two younger sisters, Freda Beard and Lila Rosenke. Leland was stationed in Guadalcanal and the Philippines during WWII as a corporal in the Army Corps of Engineers. He worked at J.L. Clark for 37 years as a plate maker. He married Betty Jo McManus on July 2, 1948. They had 3 children, Barbara Hurlburt, Stan (Judy) Hatfield, and Terri (Del) Johnson. They had 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Betty Jo passed away on November 4, 1993. After retiring from J.L. Clark, Lee worked for Gregory Anderson Quarry running the scale and made many friends with the truckers. He and Betty loved dancing, fishing in their earlier years and playing cards and cribbage in their later years. Lee was a long time member of the VFW and the Eagles Clubs. He was married later in life to Beulah Kohlbeck, who passed away shortly after their marriage. He loved the Lord, his family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Freda; daughter Barbara Jean and grandson David Hicks. The family wishes to thank the nurses, chaplains and social workers from Heartland Hospice. The visitation will be at Fitzgerald Funeral home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. on Tuesday, September 7, from 5-7:00 pm. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 8 at the funeral home officiated by Pam Lojewski, Chaplain of Heartland Hospice. Immediately following, the burial service will take place at Scandinavian Cemetery with Veteran Color Guard Salute. There will be a reception following the burial service at the Eagles Club at 3829 11 th St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
