Leroy F. Cator

March 9, 1932 — January 13, 2023

Leroy “Bud” F. Cator, 90, of Kirkland, IL passed away peacefully at his home on January 13, 2023, He was born on March 9, 1932, in Pecatonica, IL, the son of Roy H. and Elizabeth M. (Klusky) Cator.


Bud proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. During this time, he was a crew chief and worked 

on fighter jets which he loved. After the service, he returned home to begin his career at Gunite. Bud was hired as a general laborer and after years of hard work and dedication he rose through the management ranks and retired as the facility engineer. Bud was known as the “go to man” and retired from Gunite after a 50-year career.


The thing that brought Bud the greatest amount of joy in his life was spending time with his family. He enjoyed doing yardwork and was a jack of all trades, always working on projects. He was a fan of Western movies, especially those with John Wayne.


Bud is survived by Louise “Lou” Cator, his wife and companion of 46 years; daughters, Collette (Brad) McMullen and Crystal (Mike) Roach; grandchildren, Cian and Catherine McMullen and Lillian Roach. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elaine Flynn.
