Liesel E. Landgraf

March 21, 1932 — June 1, 2023

Liesel E. Landgraf, 91, passed away on June 1, 2023, in Rockford, Illinois. Born on March 21, 1932, in Bensheim, Germany, second daughter of Adam and Minna (Deppert) Schader. She graduated from Franklin Grove High School while in the United States as an exchange student staying at the home of Guy and Elsie Willard. A scholarship allowed her to return to the United States and complete her education as a registered nurse at Saint Anthony School of Nursing. She worked as a dedicated surgical and post-op nurse for 34 years for Saint Anthony Medical Center while mothering 5 children. Throughout her life she utilized her nursing skills to care for many family and friends. She enjoyed traveling the United States and Germany often with children or grandchildren. She was a loving and adventurous mother and Oma and dear friend to many.


She is survived by her children Vicki (John) Downs, Kathy (Jim) Leach, Debbie Robles, Mike (Jill) Landgraf, and Maria (Frank) Roy; her grandchildren Adriane (James) Fisher, Lauren (Kevin) Gates, Jessica Leach Cole (fiance Brian Morris), Josh (Jenna) Leach, Stephanie (Jeff) Stanis, Christopher Robles, Kayla Landgraf, Marissa (Ginny Hesness) Landgraf, and Katie Roy; her 8 great grandchildren; her sister Evi Schlotzer and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Anni Bott; her brothers-in-law Josef Bott and Anton Schlotzer; and her son-in-law Rudy Robles.


The family would like to thank her numerous caregivers at Presence St Anne’s, Heartland Hospice and Heritage Woods for the wonderful, loving care that they provided her these last ten years. We so appreciate the many smiles, hugs and attention to detail that helped her.


A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Mass will take place on Friday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N Church Street, Rockford, Illinois 61103.
