Lila Margaret Palmer, 93, of Rockford passed away on September 18, 2008. Born May 18, 1915 in Pittsville, WI, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Kaiser) Vondra, she married John Daniel Palmer in Stockton, IL on May 17, 1941. He predeceased her on October 11, 2000. Lila was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She loved flowers and gardening, loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and the rosary makers for missions. She made the best cinnamon rolls on Knight Avenue, when her kids were growing up. She was a great cook and baker. She is survived by her sons Rev. Richard (Darryl) Palmer O.S.A. and Jerry Palmer. Daughters Marilyn Gates, Joyce Palmer, Theresa (Michael) Levins, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sister Margie Wilson.. Brother Elmer (Carol) Vondra and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, grandson Richard Streit and granddaughter Kristine Houghton. Sister Eileen Novak, Armella Sammons and brothers Vincent and Vernon Vondra; Son-in-law Rex Gates, brother-in-law John Childers andbrother-in-law Ed Wilson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home for all their special care. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Palmer O.S.A. officiating and co-concelebrants. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., and from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of Mass.
