LOLA MARIE SCHMIT, 90, ROCKFORD Lola M. Schmit, 90, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in North Port, Fla., surrounded by her loving family. Born Sept. 2, 1921, in Pingree, N.D., to Floyd and Mona (Reilly) Cave. Moved to Rockford at age 2. She married "the boy next door" , Frank Schmit, on Nov. 8, 1938. Frank passed away in 1987. In her lifetime, she was employed as a hardware polisher for Amerock and as a quality control manager at Ideal Advertising and Printing. An active member of St. Patrick, Church for years, Lola was one of the original volunteers at the church annual corned beef and cabbage dinner and was also a former member of the choir. She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and other games with family and friends, swimming, and spending time at her lake house as family gatherings were very special to her. She raised a loving, closeknit family who promise to always make her proud. We loved her dearly and thank God she was ours. She will eternally be our angel. Survived by children, Joannie Heisterberg, Patricia Miley, Cathy (Fred) Nason, Sue (Bill) Spielman, John (Karla) Schmit, Nancy (Ross) Ellison, and Joe (Lisa) Schmit; grandchildren, Sindi Kunkle, Terri King, Jaci Hoven, Lisa Bryant, Amy Mills, Nancy and Sunny Miley, Fred Nason, Christine Hodges, Bill and Matt Spielman, Cory Schmit, Andrea Neville, Stephanie Schmit, Kristin Asprooth, Ashley Schmit, and Kelsey and Cameron Schmit; and 19 greatgrandchildren, all of whom she prayed for every night. Also survived by special friend Judy Anderson. Predeceased by parents; husband; brothers, Richard, Billie and Mike Cave, sister Mildred Johnson Batty, halfbrother Harley Manley, and soninlaw Bill Heisterberg. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Patrick, Church in Rockford. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. in Rockford, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Burial following funeral mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lolas name to Tidewell Hospice, Philanthropy Dept., 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238, www.givetotidewell.org.
