Loren Jay Freedlund

July 24, 1958 — April 14, 2023

Loren Jay Freedlund, 64, passed away on April 14, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 24, 1958, the son of Ann and Leonard Freedlund. He graduated from East High School, class of 1976. He married Pamela “Pam” Kay Lindstrom on June 3, 1989. He was employed by Schafer Industries working as a machinist for over 30 years. He was an avid reader and for many years enjoyed playing golf.


He is survived by those who loved him most, his wife, Pam; mother, Ann; brother, Larry (Sherry) Freedlund; sisters, Linda DeGroff and Charlene (Jim) Holmberg; many nieces and nephews; and beloved Golden Retriever Benjamin Bear. He is predeceased by his father, Leonard and brother, Thomas. Loren loved all of his family but had a special loving bond with his nephew, Timothy Yates.


The family wishes to thank Nick from Northern Illinois Hospice for his exceptional care for Loren.


A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley Church, 2715 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. A visitation will take place prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary.
