Lyle D. Sherbine, 88, a resident of Rockford for 67 years, went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2009 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Lyle was born May 24, 1920 in East Moline, Illinois the son of Ezra and Olive (Smith) Sherbine. Lyle married Anna Antoinette Marinelli on September 23, 1944 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Rockford. Lyle graduated from East Moline High School in 1938. He worked as an Equipment Repairman for Illinois Bell Telephone Company until retiring in 1982 after 44 years of loyal service. He was a member of St.Anthony of Padua Church, St. Anthony Holy Name Society and RCIA, past President of St. Anthony School PTA, and served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. His passion was attending his grandchildrens sporting events. Lyle enjoyed fishing, the Indianapolis 500 and a world traveler. He spent many summers following the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a sports purist, being an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. Lyle is survived by his wife, Anna; children, Vira (Tom) Rudnicki and Lyle Jim (Laura) Sherbine; grandchildren, Jenifer Sherbine, Valerie (Seth) Wacker, Elise Sherbine, Larissa Rudnicki, Aaron Sherbine, Chelsea Sherbine and Kyle Sherbine;great-granddaughter, Maya and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was predeceased by his parents, his brother, George Sherbine and his sister, Edith McBee. A special thank you to the staff of OSF ICU, the Bickford Home and Provena St. Anne Center for their excellent care and support given to the family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 10 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua, 1010 Ferguson St. with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 5 - 8 P.M. (with a Rosary Service at 7 P.M.) at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and on Tuesday from 9 A.M. until time of Mass at the church.
