Margaret Agnes Gorman, 86, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 in SwedishAmerican Hospital after a brief illness. Born on November 24, 1925 to William and Edna (Colloton) Gorman, Margaret was the fourth of six children. After a typical Irish Catholic upbringing, Margaret graduated from Muldoon High School, Rosary College and completed her Master's degree in Social Work at Boston College. She spent her career primarily in the fields of mental health and child welfare, practicing in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Washington before returning to Rockford where she concluded her work as the Executive Director of Family Consultation Services, retiring in 1986. Her common sense approach to problem solving benefitted the many boards, church groups and organizations that were fortunate to have her participation. As a lifelong member of St. Bernadette Catholic church, Margaret lived her faith through example, caring for others, fostering children and providing young unwed mothers a home. Margaret will always be remembered for her fondness for games, as an avid bridge player, well read, and a compassionate friend with a quick wit and an intelligent sense of humor. To her family she was a loving aunt, a confidant, keeper of the Magic Set and the designer and hostess of annual Easter Egg Hunts. Margaret loved all animals, especially her dogs, Malarky and Kelly. She enjoyed attending family dinners and concluded many by dancing an Irish jig or winning the final round of Jeopardy. Most of all, Margaret was the family historian and could always be counted on to recall any date or detail with her keen mind. Margaret will be missed by her sistersinlaw, Virginia, Joanne and Margarete Gorman, her 14 nieces and nephews and countless friends. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Mary Gorman Gyarfas, brothers Francis, Donald, John and Robert Gorman, and her nephew John Gorman. The family would like to thank the staff at Cor Mariae for their care and concern. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am Friday, October 5, 2012 in St. Bernadette Church, 2400 Bell Avenue, Rockford IL. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 9 am until time of service Friday in the church. Arrangements completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 Rockton Ave.
