Maria Christina Stacionis of Port Charlotte, FL passed from this life on March 7, 2021 at the age of 101. Maria was born on March 30, 1920, in Rockford, IL. She was the daughter of Orazio and Consiglia Fantini-Germano. Maria graduated from Rockford High School in 1938. She married Albert Joseph Stacionis on August 31, 1941 and spent 58 years together before his passing in 1999.
Maria worked many different places throughout her life including Diamond Cleaners, Virgili’s Florist, and sewing for the military uniforms during the war. Maria then began her 60 year career being the hostess with the smile at many local restaurants beginning with the Elk’s Club, Jacks or Better, Flamingo, LaMeres, Antonio’s, Mayflower, Fantini’s and Table 13. She then worked at Loyalton Assisted Living until her retirement at 86 years young.
Maria was a longtime member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Maria enjoyed flowers, sewing, dancing, fishing, playing her organ, anything covered in whipped cream or chivas and her beloved dog, Brandi, who was her constant companion for 17 ½ years. Above all she enjoyed her family, friends, being social, and was affectionately called “Mama” by many. She had a giving heart because life wasn’t about people showing up for her, it was always about her showing up for people. She did that throughout her entire life. She lived her life with compassion and sincerity. When the Lord received her he must have said, “Well done Maria”.
