Marian J. Carpenter

Marian J. Carpenter, 91, of Rockford died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 20, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center. Born Oct. 2, 1918 in Langford, SD, daughter of Eric and Guarena (Grindhom) Johnson. Married her late husband, Donald Carpenter on Oct. 13, 1940 in Claremont, S.D. Marian assisted Donald with the daily chores of running their farm in Egan, IL for many years. She enjoyed gardening, reading and family events and was an avid Chicago White Sox Fan and Green Bay Packer Fan. Survivors include her children: Diane Engel of Rockford, Mary (Tom) Engel of Rockford, Joann (Terry) Vogt of Maui, Hawaii, Brian (Fianca© Pat Jones) of Monroe Center and Bradley Carpenter of Rockford; grandchildren, Teresa, Billy, Scott, Jacqueline, Christopher, Michelle, Kara, Denise, Mathew and Amanda; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald in 1996; her son Curtis in 1984 and her siblings. Memorial service Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Pastor Janet Wold of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation Saturday from 2:00 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Inurnment to be held at a later date in Egan Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to The American Heart Association.
