Marie G. Shipley

Marie G. Shipley, 91, of Rockford, IL passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022. She was born May 6, 1931, in Rockford, IL the daughter to Genevieve (Callahan) and Millard Devine. Marie was raised in Rockford and graduated from Muldoon High School. She married the love of her life, James Shipley on December 29, 1951, and had two sons. Marie was a dedicated wife and mother and maintained the household while the boys were growing up. She enjoyed swimming and traveling up north. Marie was a very devoted member of St. James Catholic Church and participated in the Eternal Vigil at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church for many years. Most of all, Marie loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Marie is survived by her sons, Michael (Linda) Shipley and Dan (Lynda) Shipley; grandchildren, Kristin (Eduardo) Ruiz, Stephanie (Paul Bergert) Shipley, Kaela (Thomas) Churchill, Connor (Kaitlin West) Shipley; great grandchildren, A.J. Bergert, Joshua Ruiz, Camden Churchill and Nikolas Ruiz; sister, Patricia Washkoviak; brother, Bud Devine; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sister, Mary Taunis; sister-in-law, Eileen Devine.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second Street Rockford, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
