Marie V. Fitzgerald, 84, Rockford, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in her home with her family by her side. Born August 10, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, daughter of Roy L. and Violet M. Heimerle Wolter. Graduated from DePauw University in 1948 and prior to moving to Rockford worked for Panola Oil Company. Member of Cathedral of St. Peter. Rockford resident since 1962 when she became assistant manager, then manager, of Fairview Lanes until 1980. After leaving Fairview she was assistant manager for Cherry Bowl Lanes and retired as manager of Edgewood Lanes. She was elected to the Rockford Area Hall of Fame as outstanding bowler. She had the honor of holding the highest average in the city of Rockford for 2 years during the 1980's and was the recipient of a 35 year plaque for attending the Women's National Bowling Tournaments. She held numerous elected positions in the "600 Club", the Ten Pin Classic, Women's Intercity and the Bowlerettes for 40 years. She was a former member of Women of the Moose. Marie had a very competitive spirit and was also an avid golfer. She was a Cubs fan and loved to watch tennis and golf tournaments. Marie was an amazing friend, loved life, and lived it to the fullest.Survivors include her son, Kevin (Diane) Fitzgerald; daughter, Kim Marie Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Ragland, Kara (Matt) Hoekwater, Eric (Shannon) Fitzgerald, Michael (Kelley) Fitzgerald, Nicole Fitzgerald and Abbi Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Maclean, Cole and Tanner Hoekwater, Riley Fitzgerald and Michael Ragland. Predeceased by her parents and brother, Roy (Carol) Wolter, Jr.Funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Private family burial in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harlem Community Center.
