Marilyn Jean Carey

January 7, 1930 — March 22, 2008

Marilyn Jean Carey, 78, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center surrounded by her children. Although her heart was not enough to keep her with us just a little longer, while on earth it was full of love for her family and friends, and all that knew her. Her heart was generous in many ways! Marilyn was born January 7, 1930 in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Howard Wood and Inga (Robbins) Prindle. She married Charles Chub Carey in Rockford on March 19, 1949. Marilyn had worked for Amerock and then spent time raising her children. Marilyn enjoyed traveling, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, bowling, going to the casino boats, and spending time by the pool. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn dedicated her life to her family. A special thank you to Dr. Edison Lim for his compassion and care given to Marilyn. Marilyn will be truly missed by her children, James (Mitzie) Carey, Thomas (Cindy) Carey, Diane (Steve) Griffey, John (Marcy) Carey, Janet (Brian) Curry, and Sharon Carey; her special companion Charlie Penticoff; her grandchildren, Chris, Michael, Michelle, Brian, Hannah, Maggie and Kylee; brother Ronald Wood and her step grandchildren, Molly and Marie; her great-grandchildren, Colin and Jordan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, her husband Charles Chub, her son Scott and her brothers, Robert and Gerald Wood. Funeral services for Marilyn will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:30 am at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev. William R. Wentink officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from 5 7 pm and on Thursday from 9:30 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Family and friends may extend condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfuneralhome.com.
