Marilyn L. Gaskin

Marilyn L. Gaskin, 88, of Rockford passed away peacefully Sunday, November 16, 2014 at NorthPointe Terrace. Born July 26, 1926, in Johnsburg, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Verona (Smith) Huff. Marilyn graduated from Richmond Burton High in 1944 and went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1947. She was a registered nurse for many years in VA Hospitals. On October 3, 1953, Marilyn married Henry G. Gaskin, in Richmond, Illinois. Marilyn was a member of the Cathedral of St. Peter where she was active with the St. Anne Society, also serving as a past president. She was also an avid Bridge player and enjoyed playing other card games with family and friends.
Survived by her children, Lynn Marie (Mark) Schmeling of Rockford, Kay (David) Fisher of Rockton, George (Ann) Gaskin of St. Louis, Missouri, Matthew (Margaret) of Dexter, Michigan, Patricia (Steve) Krueger of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin and Michael Gaskin of Rockford; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Marge) Huff of Genoa City, Wisconsin; sisters, Kathleen (Jim) Wahlen and Trudy (Mike) Schuch and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, sister, Sandra Huff and brothers, Larry, Donald, William and Harold.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Cathedral of St. Peter with Rev. David Finn officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Ave with the rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Entombment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pioneer Center/Senior Center, Attn: Human Services, 4100 Veterans Parkway, McHenry, Illinois 60050 or Boylan High School, 4000 St. Francis Drive, Rockford, Illinois.
