Mario Joseph Agostini, 93, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
He was born in Rockford, IL on July 29, 1930, the son of Louis and Margaret (Sodini) Agostini. He served his country in battle during the Korean War. Mario began his work career as a tile setter and manager with Color Tile and later worked as a Machinist with Roper Whitney for many years until his retirement. Mario married Josephine (DeBaere) Agostini on November 6, 1954, in Rockford, IL. He was a longtime member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and attended St. Bridget Catholic Church. Mario was a former member of the Venetian Club where he was active in the Bocce Ball league. He enjoyed spending his free time doing DIY projects, woodworking and tinkering with vintage automobiles. Mario was always up for the challenge of fixing things. Most of all, he cherished his time spent with family and loved ones. He will be dearly missed.
Mario is survived by his wife, Josephine (DeBaere) Agostini; children, Mark (Ann) Agostini, Michael (Tracey) Agostini, Mary (Jamie Wietecki) Agostini, Mathew (Chris) Agostini; grand-children Donald Junior Maple, Gina (Erika) Agostini-Walesch, Anthony (Hang) Agostini, Sarah Hamblin, Rebecca (Shams) Afzal, Daniel (Randi) Plath, Rich Bialy, Chris (Brittany) Wietecki, Heather Wietecki and Dominic Agostini; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Adeline Ancona, Peter and Anthony Agostini and Linda Gunderson.
A special thank you to Carol and Lonny Davis for their love, support, and care for Mario over the last years.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with military honors to conclude.
