Marion F. Licwinko

July 22, 1928 — December 29, 2017

Marion F. Licwinko, 89, lifelong resident of Rockford passed away Friday, December 29, 2017. Born on July 22, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Mayme (Dodge) Brokish. Marion was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. She left Dodgeville to start nursing school in Rockford and remained there ever since. Marion completed nurses training from St. Anthony's in 1952 then went on to spend two years in labor and delivery at St. Anthony's Hospital. She earned a BA in Hospital Administration from St. Francis University. She continued her nursing career working at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Singer Mental Hospital and Elgin State Hospital. Marion was very involved in St. Peter's parish, where she was a member since 1961. Her hobbies included bowling, canning, traveling and reading. Marion always played a highly active role in her granddaughters’ lives; driving to Milwaukee for milestone occasions, throwing every birthday party, frequently visiting them in their new cities, sending care packages, calling them a couple times per month to stay updated on their lives, and ending each call with a reminder that her and grandpa were praying for them. She was the ultimate role model by always being patient, gentle and tender with her granddaughters while also being incredibly strong-willed and independent. She will always be remembered for giving the girls their late night snack: ice cream sundaes and apples, with the skin hand-peeled off. Through her never-ending love and care, she was and will always be an angel in her granddaughters’ eyes.

Survived by her children, Michael Licwinko and Jane Licwinko;
3 brothers Leonard Brokish, Leo Brokish and Robert Brokish and one sister Veronica Wallbruch.
Predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Zygmunt, her brothers Donald and George
