Marion L. Newcomb

Marion L. Newcomb, 75, of Rockford passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Mercyhealth Rockford. Born February 3, 1943, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert and Wilma (Sutton) Gutshall. Marion married Robert “Bob” Newcomb on March 14, 1964; they just celebrated 54 years together. Marion was a lunch aide and tutor for Whig Hill and Conklin Schools for many years before becoming an assistant teacher for Easter Seals Child Development Center. Before retirement, Marion was a timekeeper at Myco for 10 years, working alongside her husband, Bob. Marion was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park. She was always with a book in her spare time. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Survived by her husband, Bob; daughters, Marianne (Daniel) Smyth and Michelle (Robert) Meyers; grandchildren, Loreli (Ross Allen) Smyth, Genevieve Smyth and Kane Meyers; siblings, Neil Birkholtz, Robert Gutshall, James Gutshall, Charles Gutshall, Gary Gutshall and Barbara Cardott; step-mother, Catherine Gutshall; sisters-in-law, Barbara Newcomb and Jean Hullinger and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, step-father, Erwin Birkholtz, son, James Daniel (Onley) Newcomb, brother, David Gutshall, brothers-in-law, Donald Newcomb and Jimmie Hullinger, sister-in-law, Leslie Birkholtz, nephew, Steven Birkholtz and special friend, Linda Johnson.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave, with Rev. Brent Dahlseng from Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
