Marion Louise Sommer

Marion Louise Sommer, 86, Rockford, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016, in her home. She was born April 12, 1929, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the daughter of Thomas and Cora (Sundt) Johnsen. Marion married Bert L. Sommer on July 19, 1963. He passed away on February 3, 2002. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she served as a member of the Altar Guild. Marion enjoyed embroidering, painting ceramics and volunteered as an election judge. Marion’s husband, her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. Her love for them will always remain the core of the family. Special thanks to her caregiver, Rose, for her love and dedication to our mom.
Survived by her children, Linda (Stephen) Welle of Canandaigua, NY, Richard “Rick” (Cynthia) Aylward of Rockford, Kathie (Phillip) Harnden of Sycamore, and Marcy (Gregg) Plumley of Carol Stream; her grandchildren, Megan (Wai), Kevin (Vanessa), Kari, Jeff (Jodi), Marc (Amy), Brad (Jennifer), Emily, Kaitlin, John, Rachel, and Kristen; her great-grandchildren, Cora, Kiley, Kenzie, Karley, Evan, Jonathan, Julia, Ellie, and Natalie; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her first husband, John W. Aylward; her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Robert Egan; her brother, Robert Johnsen.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, 61108. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
