Marjorie C. Johnsen, 89, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Wesley Willows. Born January 30, 1927, in Rockford, the daughter of Oscar and Doris Cleven. Marjorie married the love of her life, Herman J. Johnsen on October 11, 1952 in Rockford. Marjorie was employed with Rockford Public Schools as a 5th grade teacher, retiring in 1988. She was a former member of Broadway United Methodist and a current member of Court Street United Methodist where she was very involved and served on the board for several years. Marjorie had a great love for her family and taught her children of the importance to offer kindness to others. She had a great appreciation for music which she shared her family. Marjorie was a past president of the Rockford League of Women Voters, as she had a great love for politics and equal rights for all. She and her husband were members of the Sons of Norway/Valhalla Lodge, being very proud to be of Norwegian heritage. She volunteered for CASA and was active in many community service projects. Marjorie was a ray of sunshine and was loved by many.
Lovingly survived by her sons, Curtis J. (Kimberly) Johnsen of Rockford, and Peter J. (Jane) Johnsen of Woodbury, MN; daughter, Beth E. (Dennis) Donahue of Rockford; grandchildren, Jeff Donahue (Tory Pappas) of Fort Collins, CO, Emily (Steven) Dickey of Rockford, Ingrid (Tony) Haas of Lincoln, NE, Eric (Tess) Johnsen of Duluth, MN, and Curtis Johnsen St. Paul, MN; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Rebecca and Jacob Dickey of Rockford; sister, Norma Duclon of Tarpon Springs, FL; niece, Susan (Gordy) Berg of Rockford and nephew, Michael (Karen) Duclon of Tarpon Springs, FL. Predeceased by her parents and husband, Herman. The Johnsen Family would like to give a special thank you to Elizabeth and the entire Hunts Terrace staff at Wesley Willows, for their compassionate care.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with Reverend Richard Wang officiating.
