Mark M. Lewis

Mark M. Lewis, 67, Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born November 5, 1944 in Elgin, IL; the son of LaVerne and Rose (Ringhand) Lewis. He married Patricia (Peterson) on March 12, 1976. Mark was a utility inspector for Nicor Gas for over 35 years until his retirement.He was a life member and past president of the LLL Society, serving as an officer for 28 years.Also, a life member of SM & SF Club and past member of the Trap Committee. Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose since the day he turned 21. Mark served as a longtime treasurer of the Rockford Association of Clubs and Chairman of the Milestone Christmas Party. He served as Secretary and Treasurer of Illinois Licensed Beverage Association. He was a proud member of IBEW local 19 and numerous committees throughout his career at Nicor Gas including, the Activity Committee, Road Clean Up, PaintAThon and Gastons Camping Club. Mark enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars. He was a proud member of Blue Ribbon Classic Chevy Club of Beloit, Chevy Classics Club of Florida and Walter P. Chrysler (WPC) Restorers Club.Mark was a classic car enthusiast winning many trophies with his beloved 1957 Chevy and his 1964 Dodge Polara.He also fulfilled his dream of owning a "?muscle car when he purchased a brand new 2009 Dodge Challenger.He was always ready and willing to lend a hand whether it was selling roses for the Lions Rose Day or mixed nuts for Singer Mental Health Center and NAMI.He was a fantastic husband, father and mentor.Mark enjoyed spending time with numerous groups of friends, touched many lives and will be greatly missed.Mark is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Pat; daughter, Tammy Lewis; sons, Steve (Melissa) Lewis and Kevin (Tonya) Lewis of Buffalo, NY; brother, Martin (Stacey) Lewis; sisters, Jane (Stan) Orr of Sandwich, IL., Fran (Royal) Corbin of Plano, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Howe, Morgan & Claire Lewis and Kelly & Kristin Lewis; motherinlaw, Mary Jane Peterson and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; infant brother, Lawrence and sister, Monica Trent.Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with the Reverend Dean Parker and Father William Wentink officiating. Visitation will be from 14 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the funeral home and from 10:00 am until the time of service on Monday.
