Mary E. Solem, 84, of Rockford, died Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Anam Care, in the presence of family. Born August 13, 1926, in Rockford, the daughter of Alfred M. and Elizabeth (King) Solem. She graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School in 1944 and earned Bachelor and Master Degrees at Siena Heights College, Adrian, Michigan. Mary was a dedicated and gifted educator and taught four years at Centerville School and thirty-three years at West View School. nbsp;She served as a 51 year member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Zeta Chapter; the Society honors women who have given distinctive service in the field of education. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic lay minister for many years. The family expresses sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Anam Care for their extraordinary loving care of Mary. Survivors include four nephews and eight nieces; seven great-nephews and nine great-nieces; six great-great nephews and six great-great nieces and numerous loving friends. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Betty; brother, Alfred, in infancy; and nephew, Patrick. Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Monday February 28, 2011 in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to time of service.
