M. Irene Thompson, 93, Rockford, died Friday, January 4, 2013 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.nbsp; Born August 24, 1919 in Stratford, OK, daughter of A. Perry and Myrtle J. (Calton) Cantwell.nbsp; Rockford resident since 1956, coming here from Oklahoma City, OK.nbsp; Married C.L. Thompson in Seminole, OK on December 20, 1944.nbsp; She was a member of Central Christian Church.nbsp; Also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No.9759 and Loves Park Chapter No.1027, Order of Eastern Star and the Rockford Chapter of the D.A.R.nbsp; In 1983 she retired as secretary from the Physical Education Department of Rock Valley College after 18 years.nbsp; Irene was a genteel southern lady.nbsp; She was an elegant woman who always extended social graces to everyone.nbsp; The family would like to thank the exceptional staff on 3East at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and Dr. Steven DiSanti and his staff for the loving care that was given to Irene and her family.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, C.L.; daughter, Inis (Charles A.) Bloomster; son, Paul L. Thompson; granddaughters, Holley (Greg) Phillips and Julie (Nick) Olmstead; greatgrandchildren, Karley and Sidney Phillips and Mattison, Caden, Brennan and Brooklyn Olmstead and niece, Lanita (Kent) Maggert.nbsp; Predeceased by her parents, brother, Jack and greatgranddaughter, Alexis Olmstead.nbsp;

A funeral service to celebrate Irenes life will be held at 1:00 p.m.on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Sherm Nichols officiating.nbsp; Burial in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere.nbsp; Visitation from 58 p.m. Monday and from noon until time of the service on Tuesday.nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.nbsp; Express condolences and share memories at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
