DEVOTED WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GREATGRANDMOTHER

Mary Jane Long, 90, of Rockford, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 7, at Presence Cor Mariae Center, with family at her side. She was born January 24, 1923 in Amboy, Illinois, to Edwin and Molly Morrissey Friel.
Graduated from Amboy High School Class of 1940.
Married Delmar Long July 31, 1943, they celebrated 63 years of marriage, Delmar predeceased her June 6, 2006.
Upon moving to Rockford in 1940, Mary worked during WWII as Quality Control Inspector at Woodward Governor Co.
Mary worked 30 years as hostess/manager of Pyramid Club, a private Shriners Club and restaurant, retiring in 1989. nbsp;Mary also served as an election judge in Rockford for over five decades.
In retirement Mary was an active volunteer at St. Elizabeths Community Center and St. Ritas Catholic Church, where she was a dedicated member for 45 years. nbsp;Mary provided special care for many neighbors in need.
Mary was a devoted mother who loved spending time with her family, enjoyed picnics, playing cards, and watching the Chicago Cubs.
Mary enjoyed sewing, gardening, and baking, and was well known for her cinnamon rolls and fried chicken.
Mary was proud of her Irish heritage.
She will always be missed, and will forever remain in the hearts and memories of her family.<

Mary is survived by son Robert (Janet) Iowa City, daughter Regina Potts, Loves Park, sons Steve (Jill) Roscoe, and Douglas (Marla) Rockford, and grandchildren Jeff, Jeanie (Rob) Kochan, Melissa (Steve) Bland, Casey, Adam (Anne), Kelly (Scott) Rogers, Tim (Amanda) and Amy Long.
She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, nbsp;several nieces and nephews, and very special brother, Dr. Frank (Rita) Friel.
She was predeceased by great granddaughter, Avery Kochan, her twin sister Helen Hornbeck, and brothers, Joe, Chuck, Luke, and Ed.


Special thanks to the staff at Presence Cor Mariae Center, and the caregivers of Northern Illinois Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.


Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6284 Valley Knoll Drive.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Marys name to St. Elizabeths Social Center, 1505 South Main Street, Rockford, 61102, or Northern Illinois Hospice, 4215 Newberg Road, Rockford, 61108.
