Mary S. Johnson, 91, of Rockford passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 12, 2008. Born May 28, 1917 in Caspian, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Domenica (Signorini) Selmo. She married Bernard ""Bernie"" Johnson on December 12, 1942 in Miami, FL prior to him going overseas during WWII. After WWII, Mary and Bernie returned home to Iron River and raised their family in Michigans Upper Peninsula. During these years Mary worked in the city hall administrative office. She was active in the Lady Elks Lodge in St. Agnes Church. The family moved to Rockford, IL in 1966 and enjoyed their new home for seven years. Mary was employed at Rockford Products during these years. Her faithful and lifelong commitment to her family and friends was always a source of strength and security. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend who blessed everyone around her with her gentle and dignified presence. Mary and her loving husband Bernie celebrated 62 years of married life together. She is survived by her daughter Karen Johnson, son Ken Johnson, grandson Marcus (Corrin) Johnson, granddaughter Sarah (Brad) Mulcahey and brother William (Dorothy) Selmo. Predeceased by her parents, husband, son Kris and brothers John, David, Burt, Joseph, Andrew and Gino. The entire family and friends would like to recognize and thank her caregivers for their professional competence and compassionate devotion, to Mary. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas E. Bales officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Tuesday. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Bernie and son Kris in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River, MI.
