Maurice K. Devlieger

January 18, 1935 — April 7, 2023

Maurice “Maury” K. DeVlieger, 88, of Rockford, IL passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023.

Maury was born to E. Joseph and Germaine (Claeyssens) DeVlieger on January 18, 1935, in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1952 and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Rockford University. Maury proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married Violet E. Vollmer on July 30, 1955. Maury worked very hard to provide for his family and was employed as a dedicated reliability engineer for Sundstrand Aviation Corp. for 33 years. He was devoted to his faith as a life-long member of St. Edward Catholic Church, serving as a lector, eucharistic minister as well as on the school board. Maury also volunteered his time as Chaplain with Swedish American Hospital for many years. He was a proud leader of Boy Scout Troop 415 and was heavily involved in all aspects of the Boy Scouts of America. Maury loved to go fishing with his children and grandchildren up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. His greatest joys in life were dancing at family weddings and spending time with his family and loved ones. Maury will be dearly missed.

Maury is survived by his six children; Tom (Becky), Jim (Cheri), Steve (Chris), Bob (Christe), Kathi (Mike) Engelkes and Melissa (Steve) Cieslica; sixteen grandchildren, Amy (Eric) Linder, Aaron (Abbey) DeVlieger, Amanda (Josh) Griffeth, Brad (Eliza) DeVlieger, Sarah (Evan) Palm, Rachel (Donald) Shaner, Jordan and Emily DeVlieger (Joe Shugarman), Logan (Brie) Engelkes, Trace Engelkes, Chris (Lauren), Matthew, Marissa, and Mariah DeVlieger, Madelyn and Sophia Cieslica; fourteen great-grandchildren, Zach, Eli, Easton, Riley, Amelia, Jace, Noah, Desmond, Beckett, Thea, Zander, Cole, Naomi and Garth; brother, Dennis (Sandy) DeVlieger; sister-in-law, Joanne (Gerald) Greenlee and brother-in-law, John (Kim) Vollmer; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
