Maynard "Mickey" L. Wibom

Maynard “Mickey” L. Wibom, 95, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Swedish American Hospital. He was born on May 2, 1927, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Eric and Ada (Nelson) Wibom. He graduated from East High School in 1945 and served in the US Navy during WWII. Mickey and Marlene were joined in marriage on September 22, 1967, at Centennial United Methodist Church. He worked at Commonwealth Edison (ComEd/Exelon) for over 40 years, was active at Centennial United Methodist Church, and proudly served as the president of the Rockford Sportsman’s Club for many years. Mickey loved spending time in his garden and orchard growing fruit and vegetables to share with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, traveling with the Golden Agers, and camping. He was a gentle, loving, gregarious man who will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.

Mickey is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marlene; daughters, Sharon (Alan) Alonzo, and their children, Stacey and Vincent; Annie (Ross) Bredeson, and their children, Rob and Jeff; Melissa (Jeff Grein) Wibom; and Cheri (Steven) Johnson, and their children, Logan, Ella, and Adaline; son-in-law, Lyle (Rita) Hansen and his daughter, Alicia; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Lauren, Jake, Malia, and Brent; niece, Sally (Andy) Perez; and nephew, Gordon (Debra) Wibom. He is predeceased by his parents, daughter, Linda Hansen, and brother, Richard “Dick” Wibom.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. A visitation will be held prior to the service, starting at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centennial United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
