Mercedes Gyorkos

Mercedes Gyorkos, 83 of Rockford, died Monday, February 13, 2012 in her home with her family at her side. Born February 28, 1928 in Geneva, IL the daughter of Lester and Mary (Gardner) Casteel. Married her loving husband, the late Frank Gyorkos, and had 8 beautiful children. Mercedes was a full time wife and mother until her children became older and she was able to explore her interests. Art became her true passion and talent along with becoming an avid reader. She was a member of the Eight Create Art Group at the YWCA and was active in a book club. Mercedes was a wonderful and caring woman who enjoyed her family and friends, she will be missed dearly. Survivors include her children, Michael (Marsha) of Byron, Kathryn (Jerry) Kolls of Rockford, Rebecca (Tim) Mulford of Leaf River, Chris (Patricia) of Rockford, Patty Marinelli of Rockford, Frank (Margaret) of Rockford and Anne Kaplan of Byron; 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Don Casteel, husband, and daughter, Fran Heisler. Funeral service Friday, February 17 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. at 10 a.m. Inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, February 16 in the funeral home from 58 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center, 4215 Newburg Rd. Rockford, IL 61108.
