Michael J. Sassali

Michael J. Sassali, 74, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Swedish American Hospital. Born January 13, 1941, in Rockford, the son of Samuel and Lilias (Nicol) Sassali. He was a proud veteran serving in the Army Reserves. Michael worked most of his life for American Bank, which became Amcore Bank. He was able to enjoy several years of retirement before his passing. Dad was loving, caring, easy-going and always ready to have a good time. He was loved by all who knew him. Dad enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a huge San Francisco Giants fan and enjoyed watching all sports. He spent a lot of time keeping up with the local and world news. We will all miss him dearly.

Survived by his children, Wendy (John) Schneider, Ken (Marie) Bruner, Doug (Tracey) Bruner, Dan Bruner, Kelli (Tim) Earlywine and Stephanie (Holger) Arnold; grandchildren, Gina and Scott Schneider, Bethany and Aaron Bruner, Zach and Abby Bruner, Tim, Andrew, Rachele and Rebekah Earlywine, Kara, Kirsten and Gabby Arnold; great-grandchildren, Summer, Timmy and Deaglan; special niece, Patty Setchell and special nephew, Joseph Newman Jr; and longtime friend, Jeanie Lowery. Predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Lilias, sister, Kathleen Newman and brother-in-law, Joseph Newman Sr.

Memorial service will be at noon on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Ave. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Sunday.
