Milton affectionately known as Jerry grew up in Crete, IL. after which he served his country in the Navy Air Force from 1943 through 1945. After serving his country, Jerry graduated from Cornell University where he received a Bachelors degree in engineering. He then completed three years advanced engineering courses while working for General Electric here he worked for over 25 years. After retiring from GE, Jerry worked at Hobart for 5 years and served as director of engineering for Broaster Corporation in Beloit WI for an additional 5 years.

Jerrys Volunteer activities included teaching Jr. Achievement classes at several local area schools where he won National High School Classroom Volunteer of the Year for 2001. He was a volunteer at Beloit Regional Hospice for over 10 years which included 3 years as acting president of the board. Jerry also volunteered for the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. In 1999 he was voted Super Senior of the Year. In addition, throughout his 25 years in Rockford he tutored many students in math. Jerry enjoyed classical music and was knowledgeable on the subject.

Milton Jerome Rice is survived by his loving wife Carolyn of 57 years, his daughter Kathryn Chambers and her husband Don, his son David Jerome Rice and his wife Donna. Grandchildren; Jessica, Justin, Jonathan, Tonya and Christopher. His great grandchildren; Luke, Taj, Tyler, Cameron, Samuel, Jacob and Sola.

nbsp;Memorial Service 3 p.m. Sunday January 2, 2011 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church 412 North Church Street. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church or Beloit Regional Hospice. Express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
