Nan J. Geddeis

Nan J. Geddeis, Rockford, passed away on September 25, 2013 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Rockford, IL on January 27, 1932 to Andrew and Helen (Doty) McDonald. She graduated from Rockford West High School and attended Northwestern University. She married John H. Geddeis Jr. on December 15, 1951; he predeceased her on August 24, 2007. She was a caseworker with the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid until her retirement in 1985 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Rockford Women's Club and the Rockford Junior League. Nan's greatest pleasures were the times spent with family and friends during the 60 years of summers she enjoyed at Lake Geneva, WI . Her life was enriched by the love she gave and received from the many animals who were a part of her life. She is survived by her children, Cathie Geddeis of Piedmont, CA, Deb Mellgren of Rockford, IL, Laura (Dan) Kelley of LaGrange, IL and Brad (Kelli) Geddeis of Rotonda, FL; her grandchildren Courtney Glettner, Stacey (Tony) Eastman, Dan (Michelle) Mellgren, Laura Mellgren, Brian and Patrick Kelley, and Lauren and John Geddeis; as well as her great-grandchildren Emma and Colin Mellgren and Reagan Eastman.
Also predeceased by her parents and siblings, Robert (Lorraine) McDonald and Betty (Robert) Rundle.
Visitation from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.on Monday in the Mulford Chapel at 1860 S. Mulford Road. Rev. Dean Parker will officiate. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
