Nancy L. Hornsby

February 9, 1940 — May 29, 2022

Nancy L. Hornsby, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of May 29, 2022 due to complications of dementia. Nancy was born on February 9, 1940, in Loves Park, Illinois, and raised in a small white house on Grand Avenue. She was the daughter of Leslie Messimore, and Elizabeth Ann Mackey. Nancy graduated from Harlem High School and worked as an Administrative Assistant for Dean Foods and The Brearley Company.

Nancy loved watching all types of birds that would visit the many feeders around the house she shared with her partner, John. Prior to her passing, her daughter and son in law installed a feeder outside her room at Lincolnshire Place. A single bird visited the feeder the day before she passed, which was a great source of happiness to Nancy. The feeder was then found by a great number of birds the day of her death.

Nancy is survived by her beloved partner of over forty years, John C. Brearley, daughter Kari Farthing, and son-in-law Tony Farthing, grandson Auguste Joseph Pacer, granddaughter Riley Anne Pacer, and granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Pacer. She is also survived by John's sons and their families, and friend of many years, Cynthia S. Watton. She is predeceased by her parents, and her sister Carol.

The family wishes to thank the administration and staff at Lincolnshire Place. Although she spent only a short time there, we are comforted by the fact that she was safe and well taken care of during the last few weeks of her life.

Private interment of Nancy's ashes at Marsh Cemetery will take place at a later date.
