Nolan A. Watson

June 11, 1922 — June 24, 2012

Nolan was graciously called to his heavenly home in his sleep at Peterson Meadows, on Sunday morning, June 24th, 2012. He was born to Paul and Rose Watson in Martin, South Dakota on June 11th, 1922. He and his family moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1924. Nolan graduated from Marshall High School and the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps until his discharge in 1946. He married Ruby Drager on June 21st, 1946. Nolan served as a social worker for 6 years for the Hennepin County Welfare Department. He then entered Luther Seminary and was ordained on May 30th, 1954. He served 3 parishes in Minnesota, one in Tacoma Washington and three in Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby, two daughters, Peggy (Joe) Gonzales of San Antonio, Texas, and Jane (Bill) Hartmann of Loves Park, Illinois. He also has five grandchildren: Aaron (Alicia) Gonzales of Austin, Texas, Ruby Jane (Roland) Polanco of San Antonio, Bill and Becky Hartmann of Roscoe, Illinois, and John (Janey) Hartmann of Elk Grove, Illinois. He was also blessed to have one great grandchild, Alexander Julian Polanco of San Antonio. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (John) Kwicien of Minneapolis, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. Nolans exceptional sense of humor, his living faith, compassion and encouragement will be missed by all of us whose lives he so deeply touched. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional caring staff at Peterson Meadows Retirement Community, with special thanks and appreciation to Vicki Beard, Maggie Raby, and the InTouch caregivers""¦especially Dora and Jackie. A special thank you to Pat with Able Home Health, and to Northern Illinois Hospice for their care this past month. Funeral arrangements are being made at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel. A Memorial service celebrating the life of Nolan Watson will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church at 11:00 on Saturday, July 28th. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service. A private burial service will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery in Chicago. Memorials may be given to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
