Nora Powell

Nora Powell, 88 of Rockford, died Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Wesley Willows. Born July 2, 1921 in New York NY, daughter of John F. and Agnes (Beauron) Lynch.  Graduate of Jackson High School in New York. Married her loving husband, the late, Walter E. Powell on July 1, 1944.  Nora and Walter had lived in on Long Island, in Houston, TX and Barrington, IL before settling in Rockford. She worked as a realtor for Johnson and Mauer Real Estate in Rockford and Schroeder Realty in Barrington. She also worked at the Pentagon as an Aide/Clerk and would roller skate to get to various places within the building during the war. She and Walter were members of St. Edward Catholic church. Survivors include her son, Terence Powell of Grand Rapids, MI and daughter Patricia (Steven) Morig of Rockford; grandchildren, Lisa, Amy, Tricia and Michael; sisters, Joan (Helmut) Maier and Marie (Robert) Gohn both New York and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter on Feb. 8, 2006 and her sister Dorothy Luttinger. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Wesley Willows.   Funeral mass Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4407 Highcrest Rd. with Monsignor Thomas E.  Bales officiating. A rosary service will be recited at church at 10:00 a.m.  Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 4777 E.
