Paul D. Elmer, 58, of Rockford, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Paul married the love of his life, Sue Didier on June 2, 1979. He earned his Master’s degree in Human Resources which led him into a multifaceted career in public service, including Big Brothers, Janet Wattles and Illinois Growth job coaching. Paul also gave his time and talent to serve others including the Rock Valley Board of Trustee, Cantor at St. James Church and a member of The Stars of Light, among many charitable organizations. He had a kindred spirit and heartfelt compassion toward helping others.
Paul is lovingly survived by his wife, Sue; son, PJ (Hope) Elmer; grandsons, Jordan and Seth; his mother, Marjorie; brothers, Patrick and Tim and sisters, Cindy, Susan and Jenny.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church, 428 North 2nd Street. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Ave, with a Christian Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Paul’s name at a later date.
