Paul Mitchell Javurek

January 3, 1962 — April 2, 2020

Paul “Paulie" M. Javurek, earned his angel wings on April 2, 2020 after a heroic and valiant 48 year battle with Type 1 diabetes. Born in Sioux Falls, SD on January 3, 1962 , the fifth son of John and Frances (Carbon) Javurek, Paul could always light up a room with his constant wit, charm, empathy for others and his love for people. He never met a stranger and always saw the best in every person he met. May we always remember his contagious laughter, comedic timing, and pure heart. He was a humble man who never complained about the constant trials he endured from the disease he battled for so long. Yet, he was always open to discussing the insurmountable complications he endured in order for others to understand the battles he, and so many others, face. He was always brave to play the cards life dealt him and refused to give up. He was a staunch supporter of those suffering from mental illness and was a founding facilitator of Group Hope, supporting those, like himself, who suffered from depression. Paul also served as a volunteer for Contact, aiding people wanting to end their own lives. His early years as a Boy Scout taught him a life-long love of nature, which he carried on by teaching young men as an assistant troupe master. Paul also gave his time as a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He enjoyed camping, WWII history, art, storm chasing, and photography. One of his greatest gifts and passions was music, and he loved to sing. He rocked his bass guitar in various area bands, but Puppet was truly the most magical and exciting time of his life. He brought love to everyone he met and is missed and loved by all.
He is survived by his long time “Angel Warrior" and wife, Julie Anna Gulbrandsen, son Josh (Stacey) Herrmann and grandsons Glyn and Gideon Herrmann of Dixon, IL, father John of Rockford, brothers John (Dede) of Frisco, Texas, Timothy (Peggy) of Loves Park, IL, Jamie (Bev) of Salisbury, N. Carolina, mother-in-law, Sylvia Sanders of Fort Lauderdale, FL and sisters-in-law Carrie Gulbrandsen of Rockford and Kris Javurek of Eau Claire, WI. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends Lisa Smith, Bradley Argyle and Michael Marsili. Furry babies Henry and Kirby.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his mother, Frances Javurek, brother Robert Javurek and dearly missed friends, Scott Carlson, Peter Gogola and Patrick Meissen.
A very special thank you to Mercy-Rockford Health and physicians, Dr. Hugh McHugh, Dr. Humaira Bari and so many others, for their compassionate care-most recently the D2 unit, Pastor Randal and Pastor Ken of Mercy Hospice, Tonya Munger, RN DPN of OSF Endocrinology, Dr. Leslie Edgcomb and staff at OSF Wound Care, OSF Home Health, Dr. Vasil Nika, Dr. Michael Maloney, Dr. Martin Fields, Dr. Charles Smith, Dr. Erich Schulze and staff of Northern Prosthetics, Dr. Sina Bahmanyar, Riverbluff CNAs, Terri Hileman and the endless healthcare professionals who helped give Paul the strength to fight for so many years.
Paulie had a deep love for animals and it was his wish that any memorials be given to PAWS, Noah's Ark or any animal welfare agency of your choice.
